LCK representative Gen.G concluded the first Group Stage round robin of Worlds 2022, defeating PCS squad CTBC Flying Oyster.

Star mid laner Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon put up an exceptional performance on Ahri against Chen “Mission” Hsiao-Hsien’s Syndra. The Gen.G player excelled in chasing down opponents during skirmishes, finishing the game with seven kills and 11 assists.

Chovy came in clutch during a quick chase at around 36 minutes. Mission was the first to go on the offensive, attacking him with a few Dark Spheres. Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk’s Caitlyn bailed his teammate out of the initial attack with Ace in the Hole.

After Caitlyn’s ultimate brought Mission down to almost half health, Chovy and Choi “Doran” Hyeon-joon saw the opportunity to bag a crucial kill.

As Doran’s Sejuani slowed Mission with Glacial Prison’s aura, the Ahri player closed in with one last Spirit Rush and hammered down with Fox Fire and Orb of Deception.

In a last-ditch effort, Mission cast Unleashed Power on Chovy, forcing the Gen.G player to use stasis from Zhonya’s Hourglass. Doran then continued the chase and eliminated the CFO mid laner with Arctic Assault.

Gaining the man advantage, Gen.G was able to claim Hextech Soul and the Baron, which helped them secure the victory just three minutes later.

In the post-game interview, Chovy elaborated on how he played the Nine-Tailed Fox. Heading into Worlds, he wanted to remove the obsession with winning his lane and focus on being a more flexible player that could assist his teammates.

The Gen.G mid laner also had a heartfelt message for his diehard fanbase, nicknamed the Church of Chovy. “I always appreciate the praise. I will always do my best to be the textbook [example] for aspiring mid laners,” he said.

Gen.G now holds a 2-1 record in Group D and will face CTBC Flying Oyster again on October 16, 1 p.m. PST | 9 p.m. GMT | October 17, 4 a.m. GMT+8.
