LoL Worlds Qualifying Series explained

The Worlds Qualifying Series (WQS) is a preliminary event for Worlds.

The fourth seeds from League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) and League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC) will go on a best-of-five series, where the winner will secure the final spot in the Worlds 2023 Play-Ins.

This year, only the LCS and LEC are partaking in the WQS, with Riot Games planning to extend it to other regions in the near future.

North America’s Golden Guardians and the EMEA’s Team BDS have qualified for WQS.

WQS was initially set to take place in North America, but Riot Games later made the decision to move the event at LoL Park in South Korea, the host country for Worlds 2023.

“This is to allow the two potential teams as much time as possible to prepare in the host region, minimize travel, and scrim against qualified Worlds teams before the Play-In Stage,” Riot wrote in a post.

The winner of this year’s WQS will compete against seven other teams in the Play-Ins — three from the Pacific Championship Series (PCS), three from Vietnam Championship Series (VCS), and one each from League of Legends Japan League (LJL), Campeonato Brasileiro de League of Legends (CBLOL), and Liga Latinoamerica (LLA).

The bracket that the WQS winner is drawn into will be played on day 2 of the Play-In Stage.
