Farming is one of the staple features of survival games, and Enshrouded is no exception. While most survival games introduce players to the farming activity in a straightforward manner during the game’s tutorial, Enshrouded takes it a step further by locking the farming activity behind an NPC and several crafting procedures that many players don’t even know about, as the game does no handholding.

As a result, many new players try to farm in the game right after placing their Flame Altar but fail apart from the basic base building. There is no option to set up a farm. This is why we’re here to help with how to farm in Enshrouded.
In Enshrouded, you can unlock the farmer NPC, Emily Fray, from the “Ancient Vault – Farmer” north of the “Ancient Spire – Springlands Fast Travel.” To unlock her, you must progress the game until you have discovered the Blacksmith “Oswald Anders” and the Alchemist “Balthazar.”
Afterwards, head to the highlighted location and enter the Ancient Vault until you find Emily’s Urn. Interact with it to unlock her and then head back to your base. Once you are there, use the Summoning Staff to place Emily anywhere around the base.
How to farm in Enshrouded
To kick off the how to farm in Enshrouded guide, talk to Emily and craft the “Seedbed” in the Production Place section using the following materials:
- Wood Logs x10
- Metal Scraps x2
- Farm Soil x10
Wood Logs and Metal Scraps are easy to come by as you obtain the latter from defeating the regular enemies. Meanwhile, Wood Logs are found in the open world and produced by cutting down a tree using your Axe tool.

Once you have the Seedbed crafted, interact with it to get the list of seedlings you can make. Each seedling requires a specific item, once you have them, craft the respective seedling and place it in your hotbar.
After that, select the seedling from the hotbar and place it anywhere on the ground where you want to farm it. Once placed, the seedling will grow into a plant that you can harvest for resources and also use to produce more seedlings.
Farming in Enshrouded: How to get Farm Soil
There are two ways to get Farm Soil in Enshrouded. The first option is to craft them via Emily using the following materials:
- Dirt x7
- Bonemeal x3
The second option is to dig an existing farmland around the map to obtain Farm Soil. To make things easier for you, we have shared an easy-to-reach early game location called Peaceful Acres in the above screenshot, where you can get Farm Soil to help with your Enshrouded farming.
If you are trying to craft Farm Soil, have the “Grinding Stones” production tool unlocked through the Alchemist’s crafting menu. You need to prepare Bonemeal using Bones that you obtain as drop loot from taking out wild animals like wolves and enemies.
