Former Suning head coach Shih “Chashao” Yi-Hao, who led the team to the Worlds 2020 final, will be JD Gaming’s new head coach for the 2021 season. He replaces Yoon “Homme” Sung-young, who is taking a break this season.

Chashao is another former Flash Wolves coach alongside Chou “Steak” Lu-Hsi and Chen “WarHorse” Ju-Chih, all of whom left the LMS to work in the LPL. He joined Suning in mid 2019, and within one and a half years, took the squad from eight place in Summer 2019, to the Worlds final in 2020 against DAMWON Gaming where they were defeated 3-1.

During Suning’s Worlds 2020 run, they were known for their unconventional drafts and counter picks, such as Chen “Bin” Ze-Bin’s top lane Irelia and Lê “SofM” Quang Duy’s jungle Shen and tank Rengar. JD Gaming’s players on the other hand, mostly drafted and played around around their carry jungler Seo “Kanavi” Jin-hyeok. It will be interesting to see how Chashao’s experience can be adapted to fit JD Gaming’s roster in 2021.

In a video message to JD Gaming fans, Chashao — which means roasted meat in English — said that he hopes to achieve more with the team beyond their current results and his own accomplishments. He also added that he hopes the games JD Gaming play will be enjoyingly competitive for fans and viewers to watch.
