The Mid-Season Invitational 2022 (MSI 2022) will be played on League of Legends patch 12.8, which is why Riot Games has implemented big changes in the current patch 12.7.

Out of the 10 champions who got buffed this patch, Wukong is by far the biggest winner. Three of his abilities save for his ultimate were strengthened, with lower cooldowns and higher base numbers.

Riot Games explained in their patch notes that the monkey king, though a good matchup into meta champions like Jayce and Graves, hasn’t seen much time in pro play, so these changes are intended to make him a “viable counter or flex pick”.

The most significant change is the fact that Warrior Trickster (W) now lets him dash through terrain, which is a game-changer, especially in the jungle.

Q – Crushing Blow

  • Cooldown decreased from 9/8.5/8/7.5/7 to 8/7.5/7/6.5/6 seconds

W – Warrior Trickster

  • Cooldown decreased from 20/19/18/17/16 to 20/18/16/14/12 seconds
  • (New) To the windows, through the walls: Wukong can now dash through terrain using W – Warrior Trickster

E – Nimbus Strike

  • Magic damage increased from 80/110/140/170/200 (+80% AP) to 80/110/140/170/200 (+100% AP)
  • Bonus magic damage against monsters increased from 50% to 80%

Being able to go through walls using Warrior Trickster will help him out tremendously because it means that he can now gank from new angles. Opponents will therefore have to adjust how they position during the laning phase, for it’s that much more precarious.

“These are massive Wukong buffs inside of the jungle. Massive, massive, massive!” commented content creator and analyst Nick “LS” De Cesare in his patch 12.7 rundown. “Even for top lane Wukong.”

The increased base and bonus magic damage to Nimbus Strike also improves his jungle clear. According to LCS caster and content creator David “Phreak” Turley’s calculations, that’s an overall increase of 20% more damage to monsters.

The 100% bonus AP ratio may also incentivize players to buy Mejai’s Soulstealer if they’re on a snowball, or perhaps explore an unconventional AP build on this bruiser.

Since patch 12.7 won’t see any pro play, for now, we can only be sure that solo queue, especially in the top lane and jungle, will be shaken up in these upcoming weeks.
