The music video for the Worlds 2023 song “Gods” by NewJeans has been released.
In this video, League of Legends dsports fans are taken on a journey through the highs and lows of Korean bot laner Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu’s life before he became a World Champion.
This four-minute music video is filled with Easter eggs and references that showcase key moments from his career, including interactions with some of the most memorable players in the scene.

Faker and Deft attended the same high school together
The music video starts with Deft heading to school on a chilly winter morning. Inside the classroom, we spot T1 star player, Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, seated just a few chairs away from Deft.
Faker and Deft both attended Mapo High School and started their professional careers at roughly the same time back in 2013.

Faker’s Zed during Worlds 2013
The music video transitions to a scene where Deft is engaged in a battle against a Blue Sentinel. As he glances around, he witnesses Faker defeating the Baron Nashor with Zed’s loadout.
This moment is a direct nod to Faker’s performance in game two of the Worlds 2013 final, where his mastery of Zed helped SK Telecom T1 secure their first-ever World Championship title.
Deft’s room includes an alpaca plush
Caster Christopher “MonteCristo” Mykles once humorously likened Deft to an alpaca, pointing out their similar physical traits.
This joke made its way into the music video for the Worlds 2023 song, where a plush alpaca is displayed on Deft’s bed.
“I agree that alpacas and I are alike… not just looks but also personality,” he previously told ONE Esports in an exclusive interview. “I am usually calm, but if someone crosses the line, I tend to have a temper as well.”
Additionally, Deft’s bedroom is adorned with various Easter eggs, including posters from Worlds 2013, a a group poster featuring League of Legends champions, and individual posters of Jinx and Vi, the main characters of the animated series Arcane.
PawN versus Deft at Worlds 2014
The scene shifts its focus to Worlds 2014, highlighting the matchup between Heo “PawN” Won-seok’s Jayce, playing for Samsung White, and Deft’s Lucian, playing for Samsung Blue, their sister team.
PawN’s elimination of Deft in the semifinals ended his hopes of lifting the Summoner’s Cup. Samsung White went on to defeat Star Horn Royal in the final 3-1 to become World Champions.
Rekkles’ Kennen at Worlds 2015
Even though many years have gone by, Martin “Rekkles” Larsson’s Kennen performance during Worlds 2015 remains iconic, earning a spot in the Worlds 2023 anthem music video.
However, it’s important to note that the scene in the music video doesn’t precisely recreate what happened in the Worlds 2015 quarterfinals.
In reality, it was Rekkles’ Jinx who secured the victory by defeating Deft’s Sivir in the fifth game, thereby eliminating Deft from contention.
Facing DAMWON Gaming at Worlds 2020
In the music video, there’s a tribute to Deft’s encounter with DAMWON Gaming at Worlds 2020.
In this scene, Deft is now a member of DRX playing Senna, alongside teammates Ryu “Keria” Min-seok who used Braum, and Choi “Doran” Hyeon-joon, who used Jax.
They go head-to-head against DAMWON Gaming’s Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu on Graves and Heo “ShowMaker” Su. The series resulted in a 3-0 victory in favor of DAMWON and another quarterfinals exit for Deft.
DRX winning Worlds 2022
In the closing scene of the Worlds 2023 song music video, all five members of DRX’s winning roster are featured — Deft, Hwang “Kingen” Seong-hoon, Hong “Pyosik” Chang-hyeon, Kim “Zeka” Geon-woo, and Cho “BeryL” Geon-hee.
Each player is holding a weapon that corresponds to the champion they used in their final game against T1 at Worlds 2022 — Deft holds Caitlyn’s rifle, Kingen wields Aatrox’s Darkin Blade, Pyosik carries Hecarim’s glaive, Zeka holds Azir’s staff, and BeryL carries Bard’s horn.
This was the year where Deft finally achieved his life-long dream of lifting the Summoner’s Cup. He not only reached his goal, he also defeated his former schoolmate Faker and T1 in the process in a thrilling 3-2 victory. This was also the first time in League of Legends esports history that a Play-In team won the championship.
