Want to know the best Pokemon in Master League during Pokemon GO World of Wonders? Then this is for you.

Pokemon GO, Niantic’s 2016-hit augmented reality mobile game, is the closest game for fans of the Pokemon franchise to experience the world of Pokemon in real life.

Besides the usual catching, Pokemon battles are one of the most integral parts of a Pokemon trainer’s journey. In Pokemon GO, you can battle Pokemon in various ways, and you’ll need to use the top Pokemon if you want to become a Pokemon Master.

For this article, we’ll be focusing on the GO Battle League aspect of Pokemon GO, specifically the top Pokemon to use in the Master League for this season.

For starters, the Master League is the highest tier of battling in the GO Battle League (GBL) — Pokemon GO’s global matching system where you can earn rewards as you climb the rank ladder.

Unlike in the Great and Ultra Leagues that cap the Combat Power (CP) of permitted Pokemon to 1,500 and 2,500 respectively, the Master League allows you to employ the strongest Pokemon in your arsenal with no CP cap.

Thus, the general idea of the Master League meta in the GBL is to make use of Pokemon with the highest CP in your collection. However, Pokemon CP is not what dictates the current meta but the species of Pokemon, as well as their prime move sets.

Generally, the meta in Pokemon GO changes with every Pokemon introduced, new move debuts, or the seasonal updates that shake up the playing field

So, what are the top Pokemon to use in the Master League this World of Wonders season?

Without further ado, here is the current list, as per PvPoke, of the top Pokemon to use in the Master League for the World of Wonders season from the bottom going up:

10. Best Pokemon in Master League Kyurem

Despite Fairy-type Pokemon existing within the game, Pokemon GO is still plagued with dragons, and this list will be a testament to that.

With that said, the tenth best Pokemon to use in the GBL Master League and the first (out of many) Dragon-types in this list is none other than the legendary Pokemon Kyurem.

The box art legendary of both Black 2 and White 2 should be feared in Pokemon GO as its deadly dual-typing of Dragon and Ice is super effective to many Pokemon present in this list, as well as to the rest of the Pokemon that almost made it to this article like Giratina (Origin Forme) and fellow Tao Trio legendary Zekrom.

Armed with Dragon-type move Dragon Breath for its fast move while sporting its exclusive Ice-type move Glaciate and the oh-so-spammy Dragon-type move Dragon Claw for its two charged attacks, Kyurem’s key wins in the GBL Master League for this World of Wonders season include Swampert, Kyogre, Giratina (Origin Forme), Mewtwo, and Landorus (Therian Forme).

9. Best Pokemon in Master League — Dragonite (Shadow)

Shadow Dragonite is the only Shadow Pokemon (i.e. Pokemon you can catch after defeating a Team Rocket Grunt or Leader) that has made it into this article, and for good reason too.

Shadow Dragonite being a Shadow Pokemon means it benefits from the twenty percent attack boost thanks to the ‘Shadow Bonus’, a bonus that is permanently present in all Shadow Pokemon.

Despite Shadow Pokemon also getting a permanent twenty percent debuff on defense, Shadow Dragonite capitalizes on its incredible glass cannon potential with Dragon Breath as its fast move and Dragon Claw as one of its charged moves.

Additionally, equipping the Fighting-type move Superpower as its second charged move may be a good parting shot once your Shadow Dragonite is low in HP.

Some of Shadow Dragonite’s key wins for this season include Ho-Oh,  Kyogre, Giratina (Origin), Excadrill, and Mewtwo.

8. Best Pokemon in Master League — Solgaleo

Solgaleo is the best and only Psychic-type Pokemon in this list.

The Psychic and Steel box art legendary Pokemon of Pokemon Sun is also leagues ahead of Lunala (the other final evolution of Cosmog) as the Moone Pokemon did not even crack the top 100 Pokemon in the GBL Master League this season.

Solgaleo’s role in the GBL Master League is as a party’s near-indomitable wall as its extreme bulk and high defensive stats make it a very reliable tank.

Equip Solgaleo with the Psychic-type charged move Psychic Fangs (a move that currently has a 100% chance to decrease an opponent’s defense by one stage) and it becomes a spammy Pokemon as well that can pressure the opponents to either burn their shields or force them to switch out their Pokemon.

Some of Solgaleo’s key wins this season include Xerneas, Dialga, Dragonite, Excadrill, and Lugia.

7. Best Pokemon in Master League — Groudon

Turns out, Maxie and the rest of Team Magma chose to go for the strongest Legendary Pokemon from Hoenn, at least in Pokemon GO.

Groudon stands atop the Hoenn region as it is the only one from the Weather Trio to have cracked the 10 best Pokemon in the GBL Master League this season, although both Kyogre and Rayquaza remain a top contender in the league.

New Pokemon game revealed for 2025 release and it brings back something special

Groudon’s flexibility as a bulky-yet-spammy Pokemon allows it to thrive in different roles such as being a primary lead, a closer, a charger, or a safe switch option.

Running the Ground-type fast move Mudshot ensures a speedy charged move, like the Fire-type move Fire Punch, to be ready almost instantaneously while also quickly charging nukes, like Groudon’s exclusive Ground-type charged move Precipice Blades, in just a few taps.

6. Best Pokemon in Master League — Palkia

Palkia is so good as a GBL Master League Pokemon that it actually occupies two spots in the top 10, with the other form much higher in this list.

The Spatial Pokmon of the creation trio is yet another good all-around Pokemon, with high usage rates as a safe switch option, a charger, and as a lead.

With the Dragon-type fast move Dragon Breath as its recommended fast move, it can easily charge any move sets you may want to run. Need to spam charged moves to get rid of an opponent’s shields? Use the Water-type move Aqua Tail. Need some coverage against a lot of teams? Choose between the Fire-type move Fire Blast or the Water-type move Hydro Pump. Seeing a lot of dragons in your matches (just like this list)? The Dragon-type move Draco Meteor is your answer.

Whatever set of moves you end up choosing to run in the GBL Master League, Palkia’s got you covered.

5. Best Pokemon in Master League — Giratina (Altered Forme)

Moving on to the next member of the Creation Trio, Giratina in its Altered Forme is the fifth-best Pokemon to use in the GBL Master League this season.

Unlike Palkia, Giratina’s Origin Forme just sits outside the top ten as the eleventh-ranked Pokemon in the current GBL Master League season. The reason for that lies in the coverage that Giratina’s Altered Forme provides.

For its fast moves, you have two choices in the Ghost-type move Shadow Claw and Dragon-type move Dragon Breath, with Shadow Claw edging out Dragon Breath as the former yields more energy.

For its charged moves, you have four options in the Dragon-type move Dragon Claw, the Ghost-type move Shadow Sneak, Giratina’s exclusive Ghost-type move Shadow Force, and the Rock-type move Ancient Power (that has a 10% chance to boost Giratina’s attack and defense by one stage).

As a Ghost and Dragon-type Pokemon, Giratina (Altered Forme) is a Pokemon not to be trifled with.

4. Best Pokemon in Master League — Dragonite

Indigo Plateau Champion Lance may be up to something as his ace makes another appearance on this list.

Unlike its Shadow Form, base form Dragonite enjoys the defensive bulk the Dragon/Flying Pseudo legendary Pokemon is known for. Thus, Dragonite becomes a tank that can stay on the field for a long time (as long as no Ice-types are around) while dishing out tons of damage.

Additionally, Dragonite has a lot of coverage when it comes to its move sets.

This Pikachu-Caterpie plushie is pure nightmare fuel

For its fast moves, you can run Dragon Breath to go against fellow Dragon-types, or you can opt for the Steel-type fast move Steel Wing to have a fighting chance against the scary Fairy-type Pokemon you might encounter such as Xerneas or Togekiss.

As for the charged moves, you have four Dragon-type moves to choose from (Dragon Claw, Outrage, Dragon Pulse, and Draco Meteor), the Fighting-type move Superpower to deal with Rock, Steel, and, most importantly, Ice-type tanks, a Flying-type move in Hurricane, and two neutral damage Normal-type moves Return (if it is a Purified version) and Hyper Beam.

With its versatility, running a Dragonite is a cheap way to get to the top and is probably your best bet if you don’t have many legendary Pokemon in your arsenal.

3. Best Pokemon in Master League — Landorus (Therian Forme)

Good in the main series and still good in Pokemon GO, Therian Forme Landorus still haunts every competitive Pokemon players’ dreams as it is the third best Pokemon in the GBL Master League this season.

After getting access to its exclusive Ground-type move Sandsear Storm back in January of this year, Therian Forme Landorus soared high to reach third place in the ranking of the best GBL Master League Pokémon this season.

To sum it up, Therian Forme Landorus is simply the best Ground-type Pokemon currently in the meta despite having less bulk than Groudon, and it’s all thanks to its access to Sandsear Storm.

So why is Sandsear Storm so meta-defining? It’s because you can easily spam the move as it only requires a mere 45 energy to fire off with a 100% chance of lowering your opponent’s attack stat by one stage. In a game where stats do matter, spamming debuffs with Sandsear Storm is a little bit broken.

Besides Sandsear Storm, Therian Forme Landorus also has access to Superpower and the Rock-type charged move Stone Edge, granting Landorus some sort of coverage.

2. Best Pokemon in Master League — Zygarde (Complete Forme)

By far the hardest to obtain in this list, Zygarde in its Complete Forme is the second-best Pokemon to use during the competitive season of World of Wonders.

Not only is Complete Form Zygarde bulky but it can also exert fast move pressure if you decide to run with the Dark-type fast move Bite. Add another Dark-type charged move with Crunch (that also has a 30% chance to decrease your opponent’s defense by one stage) and you have a Pokemon capable of melting through whatever Pokemon is in front of it.

For its coverage, you can Zygarde with Outrage to deal with every Dragon-type Pokemon that you face or bulldoze everything in your path with the Ground-type charged move Bulldoze.

1. Best Pokemon in Master League — Palkia (Origin Forme)

Out of every Pokémon present in the game, they all bow down to Palkia in its Origin Forme.

Only obtainable just recently with its debut in Pokemon GO Tour: Sinnoh!, Origin Forme Palkia has reigned supreme as the best Pokemon in the GBL Master League.

Just like its base form, Palkia can spam any charged move thanks to it having access to the Dragon-type fast move Dragon Breath. Furthermore, Origin Palkia also retained access to Draco Meteor, Fire Blast, and Hydro Pump, thereby securing enough coverage to protect its reign of terror.

Shockingly, I spelled and pronounced Charizard wrong for 20 years

Now, what sets Palkia’s Origin Forme from its base form is its access to its legacy Dragon-type charged move Spacial Rend. For only 50 energy, Spacial Rend deals a massive 114 damage to the poor Pokemon that is unfortunately on the receiving end.

Do note though that all of the Pokemon listed in the article must be maxed out to get the highest CP possible, thus requiring you to level it up to Level 50 with their respective XL candies. However, these are the best Pokemon in Master League during the Pokemon Go World of Wonders with that in mind.

It’s a tough task trying to find the Perfect IVs to get the highest CP, plus grinding for enough candies to max out a Pokemon. But, that’s all part of a Pokemon trainer’s journey. With that said, we wish you the best in your path to becoming a Pokemon Master!
