The tournament is the second Dota 2 Major of the 2021 DPC season, in which top teams from around the world will gather in Kyiv, Ukraine from June 2 to 13, 2021.

Tournament organizers WePlay Esports, alongside Valve Corporation, decided on an anime theme for the event.

“Dota 2 and Anime worlds have been connected in the audience’s interests for a long time already,” explained WePlay Esports in a Reddit AMA.

“Think about [how fast] Team Liquid Naruto merchandise series sold out, or the recent Dota 2 anime ‘Dragon’s Blood’ on Netflix. And the most interesting is that the community loves and hates anime simultaneously. The same as the game itself.”
