Moonton Games is intensifying its efforts to bolster the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang esports scene in Malaysia with the introduction of the MLBB Academy League Malaysia (MAL MY).
Marking Malaysia’s inaugural official development league, this initiative follows the successful launch of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Development Leagues in Indonesia and the Philippines.
According to Moonton, they envision MAL MY as a pivotal step in cultivating the esports talent pool within the nation.
MAL MY introduces a unique promotion and relegation system with MPL MY

According to Fikri Rizal Mahruddin, Moonton Games’ Head of Marketing and Business Development, the newly launched league is positioned as a pivotal stepping stone for aspiring competitors aiming to participate in MPL Malaysia and, ultimately, the M6 World Championship, set to be hosted in the country later this year.
“MAL MY will provide young players with more structured support, a more competitive environment, and most importantly, a clearer path to professionalism,” he wrote.

The league also introduces a promotion and relegation system, indicating that top-performing teams will secure slots for Season 14, while those at the bottom will be relegated.
The specific number of teams involved in promotion and relegation is yet to be disclosed.
Season 1 of MAL MY will adhere to the tournament format of MPL Malaysia, unfolding in three stages: Open Qualifiers in February, Regular Season in March, and Playoffs in May.
