A new region will reign supreme at the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League Invitational 2023 (MPLI 2023). Why? Because all six Indonesian representatives were eliminated in the tournament.
In contrast, their rival region the Philippines saw all four of its representatives qualifying in the playoffs following a commanding performance in the group stage.
In an exclusive interview following their victory over Rebellion Zion at the MPLI 2023 playoffs, Blacklist International head coach Kristoffer “BON CHAN” Ricaplaza shared his insights on the situation.
This one important mindset is what sets apart Filipino teams from Indonesian teams, says coach BON CHAN
In the post-match press conference, he said that Indonesian teams must improve their macro skills.
“Whenever I’m watching MPL Indonesia, it’s always like they’re playing brawl,” he said.
“The difference between Filipino and Indonesian teams is that Filipinos [form] objective-eccentric teams while Indonesians are more focused on highlights,” he elaborated.
Following the press conference, ONE Esports had the opportunity to speak to him more about the topic.
He underscored that accumulating a high number of kills is not the primary focus, as the essence of the game revolves around securing objectives and demolishing the enemy base.
“In a basketball game, when a team has a big lead, sometimes they just try to extend the lead with a 3-point shot, but as time goes by, they don’t realize the opposing team is already catching up,” he tells ONE Esports.
“In the case of Mobile Legends, the winning team should not look for kills, but focus on objectives and maintaining that advantage,” BON CHAN concluded.
