The Finals is not launching for some players after the recent 2.1.0 update, but it’s nothing too serious. The developer has already recommended a quick fix.

The recent ALGS controversy, which saw Destroyer2009 hack into the computers of pro players during the live tournament, has raised concern around Easy Anti-Cheat, a program that is also used to cheat-protect The Finals. The game developer, Embark Studio, has taken extra measures to protect the game despite the anti-cheat company’s assurance that they were not responsible for the breach.

As a result, players are getting a new dialogue box, “Nexon Game Security,” asking them to make changes to their devices.

Nexon Game Security is a Korean anti-cheat technology that has been added to The Finals to protect against rampant hackers. Embark has ensured that it is part of the new update but has withheld a mention in the new patch notes.

Players are concerned whether Nexon Game Security is safe, but it shouldn’t be a cause for concern since it has been added by the developer itself. On the game’s Discord channel, The Finals developers have assured that the Nexon Game Security pop-up isn’t a random breach but an application that has been added in update 2.1.0.

How to fix The Finals not launching

As a result of the new Nexon pop-up, some players are reporting random game crashes or The Finals not launching at all. Here’s how to fix it:

  • First, click Yes on the Nexon Game Security pop-up. The game will still not launch.
  • Restart your computer.
  • If Steam is by default a start-up application, close it from Task Manager.
  • Now, right-click on Steam and click on “Run as Administrator.”
  • Find The Finals in your Steam library and click on Play.

The game should now restart without any unexpected errors or prompts. This should be all you need to do to fix The Finals not launching.
