Helldivers 2 is all about the moment-to-moment gameplay experience rather than convoluted build-crafting and progression, as seen in other modern multiplayer games like Destiny 2 and Diablo 4. To that end, it feels very old school; its structure reminisces titles like Left for Dead 2.

With so many attributes in line with classic multiplayer titles, you may be wondering whether Helldivers 2 takes another step in that direction and features local co-op. Below, you can find the answer to does Helldivers 2 have split screen.

Unfortunately, there’s no split screen in Helldivers 2. As of this writing, you can’t play the game offline with a friend in a local co-op. The only way to play Helldivers right now is via matchmaking or by joining a friend’s lobby.

It may come as a bit surprising, given that the original Helldivers had a robust split screen co-op mode. However, it’s also worth pointing out that the first game was a top-down shooter instead of a third-person shooter with photo-realistic visuals, which pretty much explains why the sequel didn’t retain that feature.

As of now, there’s no confirmation on whether the game will get split-screen in the future. Arrowhead Games is currently staffing up to increase the production of the game’s future updates. Sadly, there haven’t been any mentions of split screen or local co-op, so it’s likely not a priority for the first round of updates.

However, given how Arrowhead Game Studios have been diligently listening to fan feedback and planning updates accordingly, if more players express their concern for a split screen mode, the studio could eventually make that happen.

While split-screen co-op mode in video games may have run out of trend, some notable modern titles like Baldur’s Gate 3, Diablo 4, and It Takes Two prove that there’s still a hefty demand for it.
