The former Forward Gaming squad now has a new home.

Chinese esports organization Newbee has just announced they have officially acquired the TI9-bound squad. Newbee made the announcement on its multiple social media channels.

David Dashtoyan’s decision to close down Forward Gaming left Yawar “Yawar” Hassan, Quinn “CCnC” Callahan, Jingjun “Sneyking” Wu, Arif “MSS” Anwar, and Johan “Pieliedie” Astrom in limbo.

Despite qualifying for the International 2019 by winning the North American regional qualifiers, the organization’s financial difficulties could not be resolved and was forced to shut down.

While it may seem like a shock that Newbee picked up the squad, it’s probably not a surprise given the team’s manager, Jack “KBBQ” Chen’s close ties with Chinese organizations from when he was a caster and translator for the scene.

Newbee was created back in 2014 and, in the same year, won TI4. They’ve since been to every the International tournament. However, Newbee’s Chinese team had a tough 2018-2019 DPC season, and failed to qualify for the Chinese regional qualifier for TI9.

This does leave a few questions directed at Newbee moving forward, as there hasn’t been an announcement yet regarding Newbee’s all Chinese team, or if they’re going to continue with two active rosters — Valve has clearly stated that only one team per organization can compete in DPC events.
