Kyoshi is played by Yvonne Chapman, an up-and-coming Canadian actress. She’s most well-known for her role as the villain Zhilan Zhang in The CW’s Kung Fu series (2021).

In the animated version, Kyoshi is known to be one of the few Avatars who is not afraid to use violence if it means protecting innocent lives.

While the live action adaptation hasn’t yet expanded her story yet, we do get to see how powerful she is early on in the series.

In Episode 2, “Warriors,” Aang (Gordon Cormier) and the squad visit Kyoshi Island to seek her help by communicating with her in the Spirit World for the first time.

When they meet each other in the Spirit World, Kyoshi offers Aang a piece of advice on how to become a good Avatar and control the Avatar State effectively.

She then temporarily inhabits Aang’s human form to assist the Kyoshi Warriors in repelling the invading Fire Nation forces, who seek to capture him, resulting in what could be the season’s most thrilling action sequence yet.
