Apex Legends Mobile is finally launching next week, three years after Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment first said they would bring the hit battle royale shooter to mobile.

EA announced the release date in a breaking news-style Season 1 trailer that gives players a sneak peek of what’s to come in ALM.

The game is being developed by Respawn Entertainment and Lightspeed & Quantum Studios, and beta testing has been going on over the past year. The developers also previously held a limited regional launch to test the game’s matchmaking, progression systems, and in-game commerce.

Official release date of Apex Legends Mobile

Apex Legends Mobile will be available for download on May 17. The game builds upon the gameplay of the original PC and console title, offering the same three-player squad action with streamlined controls and new modes that bring the unique battle royale experience to mobile devices.

On top of recruiting familiar favorites like Gibraltar, Wraith, and Pathfinder from the original roster, the game will also introduce new mobile-first Legends to its growing cast.

Players may not have to wait long to meet a new Legend, and the Season 1 trailer even shows Apex Games creator and mercenary Kuben Blisk keeping his eye on an unnamed “new challenger”.

While the limited regional launch focused on countries in Southeast Asia, South America, and Oceania, the official launch will look to bring the game to other major regions around the world.

Like its PC counterpart, the mobile version will also be free to play.
