Overwatch’s Competitive Season 18 will be delayed for a week while Blizzard’s developers fix a game-breaking matchmaking bug.

In the meantime, the Role Queue Beta season, which was intended to run only through the last two weeks of August, has been temporarily extended.

Quickplay, Arcade, and other game modes are unaffected.

The bug has caused some extremely highly-skilled players to be placed into low MMR matches.

Hasan “crakinlakin” Alfardi, formerly of North American Contenders teams Wave Check and Uprising Academy, immediately realized that something was off when he found himself in a game with Bronze players — the lowest-rank in Overwatch — despite being a Grandmaster player — Overwatch’s highest rank.

The bug became even more apparent after players completed the five required role-specific placement games. These matches are designed to determine a player’s skill rating for their chosen role for the rest of the season.

San Francisco Shock off-tank Choi “Choihyobin” Hyo-bin was placed in Gold despite being one of the best off tanks in the world. He later earned just two skill rating points after a win.
