Is attack speed Beatrix the next big thing in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang?

When patch 1.7.20 was rolled out two weeks ago, heroes who dominated the meta for the longest time were toned down.

The hero who was hit the hardest is Beatrix. She was previously the most played marksman in MPL PH and MPL ID. She also had the highest pick rate and ban rate of any marksman in ranked, and was popular among Mythic players for her versatility and insane damage output.

It all came crashing down after the patch was implemented. Once the most popular hero in MPL PH before Week 7 with a 57% pick rate, she was only picked three times out of 30 games in the final two weeks of the regular season.

In ranked, she now has an abysmal 46.34% win rate, putting her as the third worst-performing hero in the game, according to MLBB stats.

However, some players have discovered a new build that makes her viable again by building attack speed items instead of physical attack damage. It might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but there are actually logical reasons why it works.

The three most essential items in this build are Golden Staff, Demon Hunter Sword, and Corrosion Scythe. These items give her the attack speed boost, along with-on hit effects that stack with Nibiru and Bennet, the only two guns you should be using with this build.

An attack speed Beatrix doesn’t necessarily mean you have to go full attack speed, as all of her skills still scale with physical damage. Building Blade of Despair or Malefic Roar is still important, especially in the late game when everyone has at least one or two defensive items.

You can also switch it up depending on the enemy lineup. Go for Wind of Nature instead of Malefic Roar if the opposing team has a lot of damage dealers, or Immortality if the game lasts for more than 20 minutes.

As for battle spells, Inspire boosts your attack speed even more. But if you prefer to play it safe, you can opt for Flicker or Sprint instead.

Why attack speed Beatrix works in the current meta

Before the patch, Beatrix was known for one-shotting enemy heroes with sniper rifle Renner and shotgun Wesker. It was so overpowered that most Beatrix players only use either of two, completely ignoring her other guns, Nibiru and Bennet.

As such, Moonton only nerfed the sniper rifle and shotgun in the patch update while buffing Nibiru and Bennet. Her reloading time was also decreased and now scales with attack speed.

Previously, attack speed is counterproductive on Beatrix as Renner and Wesker both deal burst damage so she only needed attack damage items to be effective. Blade of Despair, Hunter Strike, and Blade of Heptaseas were usually the core items of every Beatrix player.

It’s a different story for Nibiru and Bennet, as they scale off attack speed, especially the latter which induces 40% slow per hit. Building attack speed items now lowers her reloading times, transforming Beatrix into a solid DPS marksman with the right items.
