The LEC 2021 Spring playoffs are well underway. In the upper bracket semifinals match between G2 Esports and MAD Lions over the weekend, the kings of Europe unexpectedly fell 1-3. Dropping to the lower bracket semifinals, they will face Rogue this weekend.

After finding success on Seraphine bot, G2 experimented again with Martin “Rekkles” Larsson on Karma in game one, while Rasmus “Caps” Borregaard Winther played Tristana mid.

Even though it resulted in a loss, G2 made it work in game two with Caps on Lucian. Despite putting Rekkles back on a ranged AD carry in game three and four, MAD Lions overwhelmed them with crowd control and better team fighting compositions.

During his livestream one day after the match, G2’s jungler Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski spoke about the team’s struggles.

“I would probably not stream this week except for today because I want to focus on gameplay, and I just want to talk to my team more,” Jankos said. “I feel like someone has to take the lead and since no one is doing it, I’ll do it.”

In previous seasons, G2’s former mid and bot laner Luka “Perkz” Perković was their main shotcaller. He moved over to the LCS to join Cloud9 as their mid laner for the 2021 season.

“That’s the third step, I guess. And then the fourth step is to not be bad. And that step could be the most difficult one because, you know, we are pretty bad right now,” Jankos laughed.
