FFXIV Zodiac weapons guide: Quests, locations, materials

FFXIV Zodiac Weapons are special armaments that appear in every Final Fantasy game.

Unlike past installments, these “Relic Weapons” primarily serve as high-tier cosmetics that players can transmogrify onto their gear.

That said, their gorgeous designs – and the time it takes to get them – put FFXIV Zodiac Weapons at the very top of their class.

Complete list of FFXIV Zodiac Weapons

Zodiac Weapons are Level 50 Relic Weapons found in FFXIV’s base game “A Realm Reborn”. Their appearance can be upgraded eight times by doing a series of job-specific quests; with each more time-consuming than the last. Here’s the full list of every Zodiac Weapon per job:

FFXIV Zodiac Weapons Stages

When you awaken a Zodiac weapon, it enters a new “stage” which upgrades their name,stats, color, appearance and particle effects. These stages are as follows:

• Zodiac (Item Level 80)
• Zenith (Item Level 90)
• Atma (Item Level 100)
• Animus (Item Level 100)
• Novus (Item Level 110)
• Nexus (Item Level 115)
• Zodiac Braves (Item Level 125)
• Zodiac Zeta (Item Level 135)

Before starting your quest to upgrade your Relic Weapon, it’s usually a good idea to “pre-farm” the resources you’ll need along the way.

This reduces the time you’ll spend grinding for materials between stages, and sets expectations for the type of Zodiac weapon you want for your build. So here are all of the Zodiac Weapon upgrade materials you’ll need in FFXIV.

FFXIV Zodiac Weapons quests

To get a Zodiac Weapon, talk to Nedrick Ironheart (X:12.0, Y:14.3) in Vesper Bay to get the “The Weaponsmith of Legend” quest. Completing the quest unlocks the next part of the chain “A Relic Reborn”, which rewards the base FFXIV Zodiac weapon of the job you’re playing as.

How to upgrade to Zenith stage

1. Acquire 3x Thavnairian Mists from Auriana (X:22.0, Y:6.1).
2. Travel to the Furnace in North Shroud (X:30.0, Y:20.0) and combine the base Zodiac Weapon with the Thavnairian Mists.

How to upgrade to Atma stage

1. Travel to the Furnace in North Shroud (X:30.0, Y:20.0) with your Zenith Weapon equipped and speak to Gerolt to start the “Up in Arms” quest.
2. Participate in FATEs (with your Zenith equipped) in the following locations to collect all 12 Atmas:
   

3. Return to Gerolt and Jalzahn to turn in the Atmas and receive your Atma weapon.

How to upgrade to Animus stage

1. Travel to the Furnace in North Shroud (X:30.0, Y:20.0) with your Atma Weapon equipped and speak to Jalzahn to start the “Trials of the Braves” quest.
2. Buy all nine books from G’jusana (100 Allagan Tomestone of Poetics each) and complete all of the missions within. Each book upgrades a corresponding stat in your Atma weapon.
3. Unequip your Atma weapon, and return to Jalzahn to receive your Animus Zodiac Weapon.

How to upgrade to Novus stage

1. Travel to the Furnace in North Shroud (X:30.0, Y:20.0) with your Animus Weapon equipped and speak to Jalzahn to start the “Celestial Radiance” quest.
2. Afterwards, talk to Hubairtin at The Bonfire in Central Thanalan (X:23.0, Y:13.1)  to start the “Star Light, Star Bright” quest.
3. Successfully bind 75 Materia of your choice to complete the Sphere Scroll and customize your Novus weapon.
4. Turn in the quest with Jalzahn, who creates your Novus Zodiac Weapon using the scroll.

How to upgrade to Nexus stage

1. Travel to the Furnace in North Shroud (X:30.0, Y:20.0) with your Novus Weapon equipped and speak to Jalzahn to start the “Mmmmmm, Soulglazed Relics” quest.
2. Soulglaze your preferred Novus weapon.
3. Earn “Light Points” by undergoing dungeons, trials, FATEs, Treasure Hunt, Alexandrite Maps, and PvP runs. 
4. Once you reach 2000 Light Points, speak to Jalzahn again and select “Relic Weapon Novus Enhancement” to upgrade your weapon to Nexus. 

How to upgrade to Zodiac Braves stage

1. Complete the following quests in any order to unlock the “His Dark Materia” quest with Jalzahn:
   1. A Ponze of Flesh, Mor Dhona (X:22.9, Y:7.3)
   2. Labor of Love, Mor Dhona (X:21.0, Y:6.0)
   3. A Treasured Mother, Mor Dhona (X:22.0, Y:6.7)
   4. Method in His Malice, Central Thanalan (X:23.0, Y:13.0)
2. After completing His Dark Materia, speak to Jalzahn again and select “Zodiac Weapon Recreation” to automatically upgrade your weapon to Zenith Zeta. 

How to upgrade to Zodiac Zeta stage

1. Speak to Remon at Swiftperch in Central La Noscea (X:34.3, Y:31.7) to start the “Rise and Shine” quest.
2. Go to Remon to attach a Mahatma on your Zodiac Braves weapon.
3. Awaken the Mahatma by earning 40 points in dungeons, raids, or FATEs (Tam-Tara Deepcroft is a great farming spot since you earn 24 points from killing the boss with the Zodiac Braves weapon.)
4. Awaken 12 Mahatmas.
5. Speak to Jalzahn at North Shroud and select “Zodiac Weapon of Awakening” to upgrade to Zodiac Zeta.
