Apex Legends recorded 8.28 million hours of viewership on Twitch on Tuesday, beating the platform’s single-day record.

The previous record was set July 20, when Fortnite produced 6.6 million hours of viewing.

Apex Legends, released Feb. 5 by Electronic Arts, was buoyed Tuesday by the first day of a two-day Twitch Rivals tournament with a prize pool of US$200,000. The event featured 16 three-man teams — including noted streamers Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek, Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, Jaryd “Summit1g” Lazar and Herschel “Dr Disrespect” Beahm — competing for as many kills as possible.

First prize was US$8,000, won by Kings Canyon, comprised of Blevins, Richard “KingRichard” Nelson, and Coby “dizzy” Meadows.

Apex Legends’ previous high viewership on Twitch was 5.87 million hours on Monday.

The second day of play will be Feb. 19.
