The two best teams in Dota 2, Team Secret and EG, faced off in a best-of-five series on the last day of ESL One Birmingham that came down to the last game.

With US$125,000 on the line for the winner, Team Secret proved why they are the hot favorites going into the Epicenter 2019 Major and The International 2019 later this year.

While Evil Geniuses dominated the upper bracket, beating TNC Predator and PSG.LGD to get to the grand finals; Team Secret ran through all other teams in the lower bracket.

The highly anticipated matchup did not disappoint as both teams rose to the occasion. But Secret ultimately prevailed in the final game, thanks to an amazing play by Secret offlaner Ludwig “Zai” Wahlberg who found just the right moment during Secret’s retreat to pull off a great combo with his Dark Seer together with Yazied “YapzOr” Jaradat’s Nyx Assassin.

While Secret may have won, the series featured plenty of great moments as well. The first game saw EG’s carry Artour “Arteezy” Babaev making a critical mistake, showing himself at the middle lane, which allowed Secret to pounce on him and wipe EG off the map.

EG support Andreas “Cr1t” Nielsen almost turned the game around thanks to his double “Black Hole” on Secret’s two core heroes.

Alas, that wasn’t enough as Secret’s YapzOr secured game one with a stolen Ravage that stopped EG from defending their exposed Ancient throne.

EG bounced back during game two, as they dominated Secret thanks to
Syed “SumaiL” Hassan’s unstoppable Leshrac.

YapzOr continued to make the impact plays, landing a 3-man “Black Hole” against EG right when his cooldown was up.

With Secret needing just one more match to win, SumaiL’s Storm Spirit took control of game four thanks to his long-range “Ball Lightning” jumps and Aghanim’s Scepter boosted “Electric Vortex” that caught out three Secret heroes in the Radiant base.

While Secret walked away with the top prize, EG didn’t fare too badly either, earning US$65,000 for their efforts. Secret captain Clement “Puppey” Ivanov, was crowned MVP of the tournament and took home a brand new Mercedes Benz.
