Fans witnessed intense esports action today as mobile MOBA title Arena of Valor (AoV) made its debut at the 30th Southeast Asian Games 2019.

Eight teams competed for the single round robin best-of-2 qualifying rounds. Here are the team representations for each participating country:

  • Hobby Computer (Laos)
  • Ikan Mashin (Malaysia)
  • Team Myanmar (Myanmar)
  • Liyab Esports (Philippines)
  • Resurgence (Singapore)
  • Workpoint Fighting Fish (Thailand)
  • Mocha ZD Esports (Vietnam)

Three games were shown on the main stage. The rest of the matches were not on stream:

Indonesia 2 – 0 Singapore

The first match of the day saw ESL Clash of Nations 2019 champions EVOS Esports representing Indonesia and Valor Cup Season 3 Malaysia champions Resurgence representing Singapore face off in Group B.

Team Singapore got off to a good start, dominating the map during the early minutes of the game. However, with Team Indonesia’s amazing base defense and with the Enraged Abyssal Dragon buff on their side, they were able to turn the tables during the late game.

Picking up from their first game momentum, Indonesia stomped their second game and made a clean sweep, getting aggressive on the laning phase and team fights from the start to the end.


Thailand 2 – 0 Myanmar

Thailand team Workpoint Fighting Fish led the series against Team Myanmar in the second main stage series of the day. The game ended with a 17-3 total team kills in just under ten minutes, an absolute bloodbath for Myanmar.



The second game was all about ranged heroes for Thailand, as they once again outdrafted Myanmar this time and took the victory in less than nine minutes.


Lao PDR 2 – 0 Singapore

Hobby Computer of Laos faced off against Singapore’s Resurgence in the closing match of day one of Arena of Valor at the SEA Games. Team Laos snagged the first point of the series, taking down six towers and finally the nexus.

The final match displayed complete domination from Team Laos, getting a total of 17 team kills and all nine towers down by the end of the series.


Group Stage results

Group A

Vietnam topped Group A with a 5-1 record and 7 points. Thailand came in second with a 4-2 record and 4 points. Myanmar (0-6) and host nation The Philippines (2-4) have both been eliminated.

Group B

Three teams tied for the top spot in Group B, with Indonesia, Malaysia, and Lao PDR, all finishing with a 4-2 record and 5 points. A tiebreaker was held to determine placement, with Indonesia and Malaysia walking away with the top spots. Singapore (0-6) and Lao PDR have both been eliminated.

The semi-finals of the AoV tournament will see Vietnam vs Malaysia and Thailand vs Indonesia.
