With the global free agency now open, DRX announced a massive change in their current roster, releasing Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon, Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu, Choi “Doran” Hyeon-joon, and Ryu “Keria” Min-seok. The team also elaborated that the contract terminations were “through mutual agreement.”

The news comes as a surprise to many with DRX being one of the stronger teams during the 2020 season. The team found success with top-three finishes in the regular season but failed to defeat more composed teams in the playoffs.

DRX’s 2020 Worlds run was also a bittersweet finish for the organization. While the team made it out of the group stage with Top Esports, Chovy and the boys struggled to conquer fellow Korean team DAMWON Gaming and was eventually eliminated with a 0-3 scoreline.

While this may be a sad time to be a fan of the 2020 DRX squad, the four players will be big names on the global market. With Doran and Chovy being squadmates since their Griffin days, the two might enter a team as a strong top-mid synergy. Keria also enters the free agency as one of brightest supports in the league while Deft still holds some high value as a veteran ADC.

As for DRX, the team is running solo with jungler Hong “Pyosik” Chang-hyeon. If DRX is able to rebuild its franchise around Pyosik with some fresh new talents, the team can definitely return as another top contender in LCK 2021.
