The popularity of China’s League of Legends Pro League exploded at the end of 2018 after Invictus Gaming won the region’s first World Championship.
Since then, LPL viewership has grown steadily over the years, driven by its very own official English broadcast that kicked started in 2015 and original content that makes Chinese League of Legends more accessible to the global audience.
Of course, FunPlus Phoenix’s Worlds 2019 win, and Suning making it all the way to the grand final at Worlds 2020 against DAMWON Gaming, have also spurred interest.
The latest 2021 LPL viewership stats are in
In the latest release by LPL, the league announced that more than 340,000 viewers had tuned in to the international broadcast of the 2021 Summer final between Edward Gaming and FunPlus Phoenix, setting a new peak record.
This is an 8.6% increase to last year’s 2020 Summer final viewership, where about 313,000 viewers tuned in live to the five-game series between Top Esports and JD Gaming, and a 33% increase compared to the 2021 Spring final which saw FunPlus Phoenix take on Royal Never Give Up.

Four Chinese teams — 2021 MSI champions Royal Never Give Up, 2019 World Champions FunPlus Phoenix, LNG Esports, and 2021 LPL Summer champions Edward Gaming — will be competing at the upcoming Worlds 2021 which begins on October 5.
