TSM has come back from 0-2 down against Golden Guardians in the lower bracket of the 2020 LCS Summer Playoffs.
It was Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg that saved the day and led the charge in one of the most exciting matches of the LCS Summer season.
Here’s how it all happened.
Golden Guardians took full control of the first game with a incredible catch on TSM’s two carries. In a top-lane retreat, Bjergsen’s Syndra and Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng’s Ashe were pinned in the bush with no blast cone to help them escape.
The rest of GG pounced them for two kills and the 3v5 player advantage. Even with the Baron buff secured, GG went for another clash at the dragon pit, claiming the Infernal Soul and running down the mid-lane to claim their first Nexus.
Though GG had a hard time in the early game, Choi “Huhi” Jae-hyun’s Bard became the final playmaker in the clash at TSM’s base. Loaded with both the Elder Dragon and Baron buff, GG’s creeps were slowly inching closer and closer to the falling Nexus turrets.
With all of TSM huddling around the turret, Huhi’s Bard landed a two-man Tempered Fate and established an opportunity for Tanner “Damonte” Damonte’s Twisted Fate to take Doublelift’s Ashe down and for the rest of GG to claim the 2-0 series lead.
With Bjergsen failing to fully optimize his previous pick of Orianna, he drafted a stronger, more active playmaker in Azir. Mingyi “Spica” Lu also shelved his unsuccessful pick of Graves for a stronger, more crowd-controlling Sett.
By the fifteen-minute mark, Bjergsen reengaged with a three-man Emperor’s Charge and easily took a double-kill while Sergen “Broken Blade” Çelik’s Jax solo-killed Huhi’s Karma.
Though Doublelift’s Ashe was taken out in a three-man chase in the mid-lane, Bjergsen, Spica, and Broken Blade sieged the GG base and added one game to the scoreboard.
TSM rolled their momentum into game four with an early outplay on their opponents. After a few pokes and stuns in the river, Bjergsen’s Orianna unleashed an incredible shockwave that instantly killed the back-line of GG.
As Broken Blade’s low-health Renekton kited Kevin “Hauntzer” Yarnell’s Mordekaiser in the jungle, Spica’s Nidalee arrived for the retaliation and pounced on the final GG member for the 13-minute ace.
With GG running out of time, Damonte’s Galio locked in on Doublelift’s Ashe to halt TSM’s advances, but TSM quickly traded it in the clash with Hauntzer’s Mordekaiser. To conclude the game, Broken Blade’s Renekton sliced and diced his way through the retreating GG members and gave Bjergsen’s Orianna a flashy triple-kill to top off their tie on the scoreboard.
With their backs against the wall, Golden Guardians did their best to shut down TSM’s bot-lane. Can “Closer” Çelik’s Volibear put the aggression on with back-to-back tower dives to shut down Doublelift’s Ashe.
Though Golden Guardians sported a stolen Baron and an Infernal Soul, they were caught in an incredible flank by Broken Blade’s Renekton who found a quick kill on Damonte’s Syndra. Victor “FBI” Huang tried to retaliate with a kill on Spica’s Nidalee, but he immediately got locked into a chain of stuns and slows, handing over another kill to TSM.
Eager to end the series before GG is able to recuperate, Bjergsen’s Zilean went straight for the mid-tower dive on Closer’s Volibear. With the rest of TSM following up with even stronger crowd control, Bjergsen and his crew razed through the final turrets and Nexus, claiming an incredible reverse-sweep over Golden Guardians.
With the reverse-sweep, TSM will eliminate Golden Guardians from the 2020 LCS Summer Playoffs and will go on to fight Cloud9 in the lower-bracket semi-finals on August 30.
