“Climate change is impacting each industry and every sector, and we believe technology can play a critical role in enabling and empowering the response to this challenge,” said Phil Spencer, head of Xbox and Microsoft’s gaming division.
Spencer outlined Microsoft’s plans to be environmentally conscience, saying that the company will continue its operational commitment to carbon-neutrality in its products and manufacturing, aiming to decrease its supply chain emissions by 30% by 2030.
Microsoft also announced its plans to create 825,000 carbon-neutral Xbox consoles. Although the statement did not specify which console, the carbon-neutrality program might begin with Microsoft’s upcoming console, the Xbox Scarlett. Furthermore, Microsoft will be engaging gamers towards real-life environmental efforts with Minecraft’s Build a Better World campaign.
