Destiny 2 players were baffled when they discovered that you could kick a player out of online servers through Friend and Clan invites.

The Destiny 2 pony error code exploit allows people to send invites that soft crash the recipient’s game. And the tasks you need to complete to activate the glitch make us wonder how it was even discovered.

Follow our guide to know what the Destiny 2 pony error is, how it happens, and what you can do to avoid it.

Destiny 2 pony error code explained

The pony error code occurs when a player gets booted out of the server they were in. Normally, this can be solved with a simple restart. Sometimes, the error appears because the developers are testing game features behind the scenes.

The Destiny pony error code differs from most error codes, which mostly trigger from network connectivity issues or hardware malfunctions.

That said, the new exploit uses this error code to force players out of high-stakes PvP matches and raids; making playing with randos more dangerous than ever.

Here’s how you can protect yourself against the Error code: PONY glitch:

How to fix Destiny 2 pony error code

  • Turn off Friend and Clan Invites
  • Set Fireteam Invites to ‘Friends Only’.
  • Set Whisper Chat to ‘Friends Only’.
  • Remove inactive friends from your friends list.

“We’ve been intensely investigating the issue that is causing players to receive the pony error code when receiving invites and messages from other players,”an official Player Support post on the Destiny subreddit stated.

The Reddit post reiterated their efforts before recommending the same precautions above.

How is the Destiny 2 pony error exploit done?

We won’t outline the entire process here, but it involves numerous raid bosses, specific Destiny 2 weapons, and finally the sent invite.

The exact process for the pony exploit stunned me. The fact that someone retraced their steps to replicate the exploit was impressive, albeit scary if you think about it.

At the moment, we don’t know if this is the only exploit that can trigger pony. So it’s worth reporting anything you hear about while we wait for a fix.

News of the unpredicted exploit even reached the ears of big media outlets. So we’ll hopefully get a permanent fix from Bungie before The Final Shape drops on June 4.
