Following technical issues that caused the finals of the ELeague FIFA 19 Cup to be delayed by a day, the much anticipated cross-console grand finals were finally played yesterday evening.

With only two out of the 32 competitors left after a grueling weekend of FIFA 19 games, Italian Daniele “Dagnolf96” Tealdi, winner of the PlayStation 4 final took on Nawid “GoalMachine” Noorzai of Canada, who won the Xbox One final.

GoalMachine looked poised to take first place with a 2-1 goal advantage after the first leg, but Dagnolf96 pulled off a surprising comeback victory winning the second leg 3-1. With an aggregate score of 4-3, Dagnolf96 walked away with the top prize of US$10,000 along with 850 Global Series points.

After the tournament, an emotional Dagnolf96 tweeted that his victory was dedicated to his grandfather, who passed away the day before he left for Atlanta.

Dagnolf96’s match against Brazilian Henrique “Zezinho” Lempke was definitely the game of the tournament. At the end of the first half, the score was tied 2-2. In the second half, an avalanche of goals from both sides saw the score climb to 6-6, and with the score still tied at the end of regulation, it wound up being decided by penalties. While Zezinho was favored as the highest ranked PlayStation 4 player in the tournament, Dagnolf96 managed to pull off an upset victory, winning the penalty shootout 3-1.

The next event scheduled for FIFA 19 is the Playoff Stage which will determine who will be participating in the FIFA eWorld Cup Grand Finals.
