Cloud9 (C9) has announced that they have once again departed from the competitive Dota 2 circuit a mere three months after the organization made its return to the scene.
With C9 dropping out of competing in Dota 2, the organization has also released its roster, which consisted of Jacky “EternaLEnVy” Mao, Marcus “Ace” Hoelgaard, Jingjun “Sneyking” Wu, Rasmus “MISERY” Filipsen, Johan “pieliedie” Åström, and Rolen “skem” Ong.
EternalEnvy and Sneyking have notably already joined Clinton “Fear” Loomis’ team, Business Associates.
“It was great working with these players and I want to thank them for being professional throughout and buying into our vision and company values. We’re confident that success will follow them as their careers progress,” said C9 Team Manager Ysabel “Noukky” Müller in a statement.
While C9 has been active in Dota 2 since 2014, this is the fifth time the organization has departed the scene.

C9 first entered Dota 2 by signing the Speed Gaming roster led by EternalEnvy in 2014, which managed to finish in the Top 6 of The International 2014 (TI4) before being disbanded in August 2015. C9 picked up the roster of Team Dark Horse in September of that year, but the organization released that squad and left the scene a mere two months later.
C9 returned to Dota 2 again at the start of 2017 by signing the roster of Danish Bears, which was headlined by Ace, but disbanded it five months later.
The organization returned once more in July of that year by picking up Team NP, which was notably led by EternalEnvy. After the team bombed out of TI7 at 13th-16th place, however, C9 disbanded its Dota 2 roster and left the scene for the fourth time.
After over two years away from the scene, C9 returned to Dota 2 once more in January this year with a roster that consisted of MISERY, pieliedie, skem, Francis “FLee” Lee, and Jia Hao “vtFaded” Cheng. Just two months later, however, the team benched skem and vtFaded then released Flee in order to make room for the return of EternalEnvy and Ace.
Before it was disbanded, C9’s latest roster notably bottomed out in the Dota Summit 12 and WeSave! Charity Play – North America in March, then only managed a 6th place finish at the eight-team BTS Pro Series: Americas online tournament earlier this month.
