Houmaid “Takamura” Rabie is the latest Street Fighter V: Champion Edition player to qualify for Capcom Cup 2020 after winning the Capcom Cup Europe West 1 online qualifier.

The tournament featured the best players from Europe including Benjamin “Problem X” Simon, Olivier “Luffy” Hay, and DC “Infexious” Coleman.

Claude Eric “Hurricane” Diboti was another finalist who had an impressive tournament run and made it all the way to the Winners’ Final match, but lost to Takamura in a close 3-2 set. Hurricane then defeated Problem X’s Abigail that earned him another shot at defeating Takamura.

The Grand Final set was an offensive showcase between Takamura and Hurricane, who were both using high-damage characters in Akuma and Cammy. Takamura did most of his damage with Akuma’s ex-Dragon Punch, which helped him go up 1-0 against Hurricane.

Hurricane picked up on Takamura’s playstyle and earned himself an impressive comeback win in the following set. Hurricane then clutched out the third round to even the set 1-1.

Knowing that Takamura was constantly looking for counter-hits that would lead to huge damage, Hurricane started playing a bit more hesitantly towards the later stages of the set. This allowed Takamura to walk his opponent down, which got him to set point.

Despite playing the match online, Takamura also did most of his damage from quick-reaction whiff punishes that pushed Hurricane into the corner. Takamura finished the tournament without losing a single match and qualified for his first-ever Capcom Cup tournament.

Takamura now joins Arman “Phenom” Hanjani, Yoryi “DR Mandrake” Bueno, Niel “SKZ” Chong, and Gonzalo “Pikoro” Buleje — who won the South America 1 qualifier — as the five players who’ve qualified for Capcom Cup 2020. The tournament will also include Derek “iDom” Ruffin, the reigning Capcom Cup 2019 champion.
