After weeks of speculation, ONIC Esports confirmed on July 4 that Kairi “Kairi” Rayosdelsol and Coach Denver “Yeb” Miranda have joined the MPL Indonesia team.

It was a monumental transfer, as this is the first time an MPL ID team is recruiting a player and a coach from MPL PH.

Both Yeb and Kairi were formerly from ONIC Esports’ sister team, ONIC PH. The team is considered one of the strongest in the region after their dominant MPL PH Season 8 and M3 World Championship performance though they haven’t won a championship.

Joining MPL Indonesia as a Filipino player is a great career opportunity for the duo, but ONIC PH’s jungler would not have taken the step without one of his mentors.

After the ONIC Esports press conference where they announced their roster for the next season, ONE Esports had the chance to talk to Kairi and Yeb. According to the 16-year-old jungler, he wouldn’t have been allowed to play overseas without his coach.

“My parents won’t allow me [to move to Indonesia], and I don’t think I can do it alone,” he told ONE Esports.

Similarly, Yeb had the same sentiment and said that he wouldn’t have moved to Indonesia without Kairi on the team.

Kairi also set the record straight, saying that he doesn’t expect to immediately dominate in the league this season.

“I don’t expect my performance to be very good in season 10,” he said. “I just want to practice as much as possible, work hard, and show the results of the training on the MPL stage,”

He also mentioned that the bootcamp has been fun so far, noting that everyone is making him feel at home.

“I think my closest friends at ONIC Esports are SamohT and Drian. They welcomed me, they always feed me, and other things,” Kairi said. “We always talk, and they quickly made me a part of their team.”
