The LEC Spring Finals that was set to be hosted in Budapest, Hungary for the first time, has been canceled due to safety concerns over the spread of COVID-19 across Europe.

The LEC Spring Finals on April 25 and 26 will instead take place at the LEC studio in Berlin where the league is currently being played.

A smaller setting with a reduced audience size provides a more controlled environment, said Alberto “Tiroless” Guerrero, Riot’s Head of Esports for Europe.

LEC Spring and Summer finals locations were first announced on January 24, 2020, on LEC’s official page. Riot Games is currently monitoring the situation, though no announcement has been made about the LEC Summer Finals set to take place in Sweden in August.

In North America, the LCS has implemented new rules to address safety concerns, suspending fan meets, victory high fives, and post-game handshakes.

The LCS Spring Finals 2020 will take place in Frisco, Texas on April 18 and 19. In his message, LCS Commissioner Chris Greeley added that Riot Games is closely monitoring the situation.

There are currently more than 500 reported coronavirus cases in the US and more than 4,600 cases in Italy.
