Most League of Legends games end up with high kill scores as players look to wipe out the enemy team to take out objectives.
However, the battle between MEGA Esports (MG) and DetonatioN FocusMe (DFM) concluded with a minimal number of 4 to 5 kills on each team, but caught everyone’s attention thanks to the plays made by Japan’s first full time professional squad, DetonatioN FocusMe, and Thailand-based team MEGA Esports.
Right from the get-go, all eyes were on the Japanese team as they introduced non-meta champion picks to the match, particularly the Sona-Taric duo combination used by DFM Yuta “Yutapon” Sugiura and DFM Yang “Gaeng” Gwang. This was complemented by having Kayle on the top lane played by DFM Shunsuke “Evi” Murase, with Kindred in the jungle played by DFM Moon “Steal” Geon-yeong, and DFM Kyohei “Ceros” Yoshida playing Ziggs in mid.
At the start of the game, the two support champions at the bottom lane were having a hard time as they were easily pushed back to their towers by Tristana (MG Juckkirsts “Lloyd” Kongubon) and Braum (MG Ha “PoP” Min-wok), with the help of an early gank from Jarvan IV (MG Kwon “Jjun” Jun-seok). The DFM duo had to hold on to their towers until they scaled up.
While the bottom lane was holding on, MG took out the first tower at top lane with Viktor (MG Atit “Rockky” Phaomuang) leading the attack, along with the help of a Rift Herald.

It wasn’t only until the 16-minute mark did first blood happen. MG had stolen the infernal drake from DFM and MG Lloyd’s Tristana got caught while fleeing and falls.
One of the key reasons for the low amount of kills was the strong vision game from the Sona-Taric duo throughout the map. This helped DFM strategically plan out their next moves, letting them keep their eyes on the enemy team’s Nexus while going easy on the kills.
The game was pretty much over once DFM acquired the Baron Nashor buff, as the Japanese team pushed into MG’s base while the Thai team defended. Most of the kills happened around the Nexus as MG tried in vain to push the DFM back.
In the end, DFM took their first win on the second day of MSI 2019.
