League of Legends Lead Gameplay Designer Matt “Riot Phroxzon” Leung-Harrison posted a preview of LoL patch 14.11 today.
MSI 2024 just concluded — played on patch 14.8 — and lane swaps has been a hot topic in the community. The game devs will be tweaking the game state in this patch to address some of those issues.
Similarly, the most picked champion at MSI 2024 will be tackled, but not entirely nerfed due to a few factors that Riot Phroxzon elaborates on.

State of marksmen in LoL patch 14.11
The LoL game devs have assessed that marksmen are now at “similar levels of durability to the durability patch.” They recognize that they’re strong, but will wait for more data to come in before they make a move.
They intend to keep this level of durability, and will nerf other aspects like damage output if marksmen are deemed too strong.
In terms of first items, the team feels that marksmen champions have reached a level where it’s relatively equal, where Kraken Slayer, The Collector, Essence Reaver, and Infinity Edge are all viable options of varying strength.
That said, they “believe Collector and Infinity Edge are a bit on the strong side and Essence Reaver a little on the weak side.” They’re also looking at the low Staikk Shiv pick rate and how to “move it further into the on-hit space” because it’s currently underpowered.
State of Lane Swaps in LoL patch 14.11
Reviewing MSI 2024, the team believes that lane swaps generally happened due to teams adapting to player matchups over time. In some cases, like when there’s a double ranged bot lane, it was a bit too optimal.
Riot will be “adjusting the fortification and first turret gold values as a result.”

“Smolder has landed in a bit of a weird spot. Tri Force overall is offering a bit of a better package than Essence Reaver overall,” Riot Phroxzon wrote. ” We would like Sheen items to be viable on him, and also to have some Crit builds and some non Crit builds.”

K’Sante is the most picked champion at MSI 2024 by a margin. He was selected 51 times according to data from gol.gg. In comparison, Kalista, the second most picked champion, was selected 44 times.
The game dev team recognizes that there are favorable matchups into him, but not enough that it was obviously exploitable.
“In the short term, we’re making some targeted changes to reduce just how much damage he can soak with W,” wrote Riot Phroxzon.
“We also intend to take a larger stab at some of his kit shape to give him sharper strengths and weaknesses, but that will take some time. Given that he has optionality between tanking and fighting, he probably also shouldn’t be so generally durable.”

Riot focused on nerfing healing, buffing weak champions, nerfing fighters, and outlier legendary and prismatic items.
Buffs are targeted at Ekko, Fizz, LeBlanc, Corki, Viktor, Ziggs, and Akshan.
Nerfs are targeted at Darius, Vi, Rhaast, Gragas, Garen, Trundle, Vlad, Aatrox, and Briar.

Expect buffs to Corki, Ezreal, Yasuo, Yone, and Miss Fortune.
Nerfs are targeted at Shen, Veigar, Akshan, Morgana, Nautilus, Hwei, and Skarner.
