Netflix has released the first official video teaser for its upcoming series The Witcher. The two-minute clip gives fans a preview of the anticipated adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s best-selling fantasy novels.

British actor Henry Cavill plays monster hunter Geralt of Rivia. The teaser previews his quests and battles, while also introducing key characters Ciri (Freya Allan) and Yennefer (Anya Chalotra).

Confirmed to run for eight episodes in its first season, the series will explore the origins of the three main characters. Geralt is expected to take center stage with the action, dealing with monsters of various forms in this fantastical setting known simply as the Continent.

The source material was previously adapted as a trilogy of role-playing video games that launched in 2007. The games expanded on the events of the novels, serving more as a sequel to the books instead of a direct adaptation.

Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich has made it clear that the Netflix series will be based only on the novels.

The Witcher will launch in late 2019.
