After over a year and a half of waiting since its original announcement at Blizzcon 2017, World of Warcraft Classic finally has a release date. You’ll be able to experience the glory of “vanilla WoW”, the way it was 13 years ago, when the Classic servers launch on August 27.

The servers will recreate WoW at the time of the “Drums of War” update (patch 1.12.0), which dropped on August 22, 2006. All gameplay mechanics will be faithful to the original patch, which includes a level 60 level cap, no Shamans on the Alliance, no Paladins on the Horde, no Death Knights, Monks, or Demon Hunters, disconnected flight paths, no flying mounts, and you won’t even get your first ground mount until level 40 (and it will be really, really slow).

All four of the original 40-man raids — Molten Core, Blackwing Lair, Temple of Ahn’Qiraj, and the original version of Naxxramas — will be available. For newer players, this is a great opportunity to experience the original 40-man Naxxramas raid, which is currently not available in game (it was updated to 10- and 25- man versions for Wrath of the Lich King).

WoW Classic will be available to all regular WoW subscribers for free. A closed beta test for WoW Classic starts today. For a chance to participate in the beta, you can opt-in to Blizzard’s beta access program here.

If you prefer to relive WoW’s storied 15 year history through the current version of the game, a new 25-man raid will soon be available through Raid Finder. The raid will serve as a greatest hits collection of WoW’s past raid bosses. Completing the raid will reward players with the Obsidian Worldbreaker mount, which looks like a smaller version of Deathwing.

Blizzard will also be releasing a US$100 15th Anniversary Collector’s Edition on October 8. The CE will include two in-game mounts — the Alabaster Stormtalon, and the Alabaster Thunderwing — a 10-inch statue of Ragnaros, an Onyxia head pin, a mousepad with a map of Azeroth on it, a 30-day subscription and a set of art prints. The 15th Anniversary Collector’s Edition is available to pre-order now.
