Good news Pokémon trainers — the Pokémon Oceania Regional Championships are now officially locked in! The event will start with the first tournament in Brisbane, Australia, on December 7.

Besides offering up to US$50,000 in prizes, which includes scholarships and gift cards, Player Points will be given out as well. These points are necessary for those who are keen on starting early for a spot at the 2020 World Championships.

The event, featuring both Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) and Video Game (VGC) Regional Championships, will also be running in three other locations:

  • Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia — December 21-22, 2019
  • Perth Town Hall, Perth, Australia — March 14-15, 2020
  • Quaycentre’s Hall of Legends, Sydney, Australia — May 16-17, 2020

All four tournaments will be played using Standard TCG rules. As for Pokémon VGC, contestants will need to play two formats. For the Brisbane and Kuala Lumpur tournaments, they will be using the 2019 Ultra Series Format from Pokémon Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon games. Once 2020 rolls over, players must switch over to the system that Pokémon Sword/Shield will be introducing.

The Pokémon Company did not reveal how the transition will be carried out for Pokémon VGC. The move could be complex as the gaming systems and play-style are completely different.

More details for the Pokémon Oceania Regional Championships will be released in the coming months.
