As another Lunar New Year approaches, Riot Games introduces players to the Valorant Xerofang bundle.

Departing from the traditional aesthetics of previous Lunar New Year bundles such as the Ox, Tiger, and Rabbit skins, the Xerofang collection introduces a bold and futuristic design that perfectly complements Riot Games’ competitive first-person shooter.

Unlike its predecessors, which leaned heavily on traditional designs, the Xerofang skinline features a modern flair reminiscent of the sleek visuals in popular futuristic series like Tron Legacy and Blade Runner.

The new Valorant bundle’s release is on February 7, 2024 costing 6,355 VP.

The Xerofang collection features skins for the melee, Vandal, and ghost, each offering three color variants for players to choose from.

All three skins boast a unique “scales” animation along the sides of the weapons that activate during equip, shoot, reload, and inspect actions.

The Xerofang knife has the standard melee grip archetype with new custom right-click and idle animations.

A hallmark of Lunar New Year skins is the reactive Gun Buddy, which illuminates when shooting. This characteristic carries over to the Xerofang bundle, with Gun Buddy’s dragon eyes and faces shining bright as players shoot down opponents.

Riot Games’ Senior Manager of Art Direction, Kerwin Atienza, sheds light on the creative process behind the Xerofang bundle’s designs.

“Our primary inspiration was futuristic concept cars, known for their sleek contours and dynamic shapes,” he said. “The incorporation of moving scales adds a tactile and responsive element to the weapons, elevating them to a new level of sophistication and innovation.”

The Xerofang’s finisher summons a digital dragon, which is a different visual from the Imperium bundle that brings in a Shenron look-a-like from Dragon Ball Z.

According to Senior Game Producer, Jean Luc Tin Sive, The development team carefully balanced visual impact with gameplay functionality, refining the scales’ movement through iterative design.

Ultimately, they reduced scale animation, leveraging light and visual effects to maintain immersion. The player card and gun buddy feature a literal representation of the dragon motif.
