Riot Games has dropped a teaser trailer for its new ChronoVoid skin bundle, featuring futuristic weapons inspired by an ancient technology that only a precious few wield.

Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic, Arthur C. Clarke wrote, and the ChronoVoid collection leans heavily into that idea.

From floating spheres that defy gravity to finisher effects that appear to capture your opponent and transport them somewhere else entirely, the bundle feels like something from a different world.

The goal was to create a sci-fi weapon with a unique experience, said Stefan Jevremovic, Art Lead, and they wanted to show something that was both “technologically advanced” and “luxurious.”

Myth and legend meet science fiction in the ChronoVoid skin bundle

Drawing inspiration from the story of Daedalus and the Minotaur’s Labyrinth, Riot wanted to convey a sense of mystery and power, said Jevremovic. The ChronoVoid weapon skins are intended to make players feel like they are holding a forbidden piece of treasure — a relic of ancient powers.

While the skins are vaguely reminiscent of the smooth lines and glowing core of the Ion bundle, the animations are actually something new altogether.

“We had a bit of a tough time when it came to animating the weapons because we were trying to do something new,” said Victoria Kim, Producer. “The idea was to make each layer of the orb move independently.”

The ChronoVoid skin bundle features both the Phantom and Vandal, in addition to the Sheriff and Judge. It is a rare instance of a collection offering skins for both rifles, instead of just one. There is also a Terminus A Quo melee, which is probably one of the most unique in the game.

It takes the form of a floating sphere, which then transforms into a blade when you left-click.

The skins also include custom inspect animations, visual and audio effects, and even their own ADS reticle and bullets. Three variants are available, comprising green, red, and black.

You’ll also get cosmetics exclusive to the bundle, including a maze-like spray, a gun buddy, and a menacing player card with what appears to be the Minotaur suffused in an otherworldly glow.

The bundle will cost 8,700 VP when it hits the store on September 21. Watch the full reveal here.
