Bandai Namco’s latest fighting game title is set to be released in a few months, and a lot of fans are asking: Is Tekken 8 PS5 exclusive?

In a previous interview with PLAY Magazine (issue #27), Bandai Namco producer Katsuhiro Harada has confirmed that Tekken 8 is opting to bypass a PS4 release and, instead, fully embrace the cutting-edge technology of the PS5.

The reason for this is that the current-gen console’s SSD (solid state drive) helps put players into matches much faster and is considered a game-changer. Harada even stated that this feature of the PS5 is “probably even the biggest thing that’s going to evolve the player experience in the game.”

Does this announcement make Tekken 8 PS5 exclusive?

Just because it’s skipping the PS4 doesn’t make Tekken 8 PS5 exclusive. This has been made evident with the second week of its Closed Network Test happening this month, which confirms the inclusion of Steam, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S users to the Tekken 8 test program.

Since Harada also confirmed that crossplay and rollback netcode will be available in Tekken 8, the purpose of the Closed Network Test is to assess the network and monitor the gameplay experience of Tekken 8 where chosen participants will get to enjoy the game ahead of its release.
