The rumor mill is already ramping up for this year’s Call of Duty title. Modern Warfare 2 is the sequel to 2019’s Modern Warfare, pegged as one of the best Call of Duty games in recent years and the most successful to date.

A recent teaser showed off the game’s logo, alongside a set of latitude and longitude coordinates in the background, which naturally sent the online sleuth machinery into high gear.

While the coordinates in the video are pretty hard to make out, fans are now convinced that Modern Warfare 2 will have some sort of connection to Singapore.

Modern Warfare 2 may have links to Singapore

The tiny island nation has yet to make an appearance in the Modern Warfare franchise, although it has played a role in the Black Ops series.

The teaser confirms the return of Task Force 141, the main protagonists of 2009’s Modern Warfare 2.

Captain John Price put together Task Force 141 at the end of Modern Warfare to combat Russian arms dealer and terrorist Imran Zakhaev, but it’s not clear how any of this would tie back to Singapore.

Freelance writer Tom Henderson identified the coordinates as 1.3521° N, 103.8198° E. When plugged into Google Maps, they appear to point to somewhere on the MacRitchie Nature Trail, but the coordinates could also indicate Singapore as a whole rather than a random spot in the island’s lush greenery.

Given the Modern Warfare franchise’s history of urban warfare, the city state’s sprawling urban landscape could be a more likely setting for any campaign mission or new map, instead of one of its nature preserves.

Of course, this is all just speculation for now, and we’ll have to wait for the game’s release for confirmation. Activision has yet to set a release date, but the yearly Call of Duty title generally ships between October and November.
