With a final bow, Evil Geniuses exit the Counter-Strike stage three years after returning to the title the organization made its name in.

After parting ways in 2012, Evil Geniuses made a triumphant comeback to Counter-Strike in 2019 following their acquisition of NRG Esports, clinching the ESL One New York title in the same year. The NA side also dominated the scene with wins in BLAST Premier Spring 2020 American Finals and holding the first place on the podium after beating Team Liquid in ESL One Cologne 2020 NA competition.

Although EG Counter-Strike began on a positive note, their fortunes took a downturn after a couple of years. The dynamic nature of esports and Counter-Strike frequently necessitates roster changes, and unfortunately, EG fell victim to these variations.

On X (formerly Twitter, Evil Geniuses extended their gratitude to the Counter-Strike team members, including Colby “Walco” Walsh and major winner with Cloud9, Timothy “autimatic” Ta. The organization also shared their appreciation for the women’s team, including their captain, Kiara “m1lky” Makua, and the head coach, Joseph “muenster” Lima.

Even as they say goodbye to the teams they fielded in CS, Soham “valens” Chowdhury will continue to serve as EG’s Head of Gaming. As a former professional Counter-Strike player, his role remains pivotal and holds great promise for the future of EG and the aspirations of North America in the Counter-Strike esports scene.

While the current phase of EG’s Counter-Strike adventure has concluded, the narrative is far from over. The organization has suggested that they will vigilantly monitor the CS scene, leaving the door open for a potential return in the future.

EG CS carries a huge legacy, and the numerous opportunities that the evolving landscape of Counter-Strike 2 holds may open new entry points for them. Whether Evil Geniuses will return to the CS2 battlefield is uncertain, but one thing is clear their place in the history of the game remains.
