Warzone 2.0 Season 2 brings several big changes to the popular battle royale game, including a return to the 1v1 Gulag mode in the original Warzone.

The second iteration of the battle royale game shook up how the Gulag was played, changing it to a 2v2 mode where players would be paired up with another random player. It also encouraged the use of the new proximity chat feature, where they had to decide whether to take down the enemy team or work together to eliminate the Jailer NPC.

But after a backlash from fans, Infinity Ward is finally bringing back its tried-and-tested 1v1 format.

The new Jailer NPC is also going away, and will be replaced by the Domination-style flag control point overtime mechanic, another returning feature from the original Warzone.

To bring this change online sooner, Infinity Ward says it has edited the existing Gulag map for better 1v1 combat. It is also actively working on a dedicated 1v1 map for future seasons.

The Gulag gives players a second chance to rejoin the lobby, but the 2v2 system often put them at the mercy of a random teammate, resulting in considerable frustration.

Infinity Ward is also making some “logistical” changes to the Gulag experience. Ground loot is being revisited, and the developer is examining the loadouts players spawn with as well.

It has updated the pool to include assault rifles, submachine guns, and light machine guns as primary weapons as the circle progresses. Shotguns have been removed from the rotation, while handguns will remain available as secondary weapons.

Players who leave the Gulag victorious will be awarded a larger cash reward. This will allow them to get back on their feet quicker and rejoin the fray.

Similarly, the Gulag will spawn with cash as ground loot to encourage players to explore the arena to increase the amount of cash they have upon redeploying.
