Storm the Castle is the Tier 3 mission in Act 3 – Confrontation, in Modern Warfare 3 Zombies. In this mission, players must clear a Mercenary Camp and obtain a Stronghold Key to access a Mercenary Stronghold to be able to get the Fortress Keycard – Legacy.
Players will need this Fortress Keycard to access the Legacy Fortress, where players must defeat the Warlord to obtain Strauss’s Research and complete the Storm the Castle MW3 Zombies mission.

While doing the previous missions in MW3 Zombies, you should have already cleared Mercenary Stronghold and Mercenary Camps. What makes Storm the Castle a daunting mission, is the fact that many players don’t know the location where they can find Warlord and collect Strauss’s Research.
Seeing that, to help players, we are here with a detailed guide that walks you through the Storm the Castle MW3 Zombies mission. We’ll cover the location of the Mercenary Camp, Mercenary Stronghold, and Warlord, along with sharing tips on how to defeat him.
How to complete Storm the Castle MW3 Zombies quest
You must complete the following objectives in a single run to complete the Storm the Castle MW3 Zombies quest:
- Complete a Merc Camp (0/1)
- Clear a Mercenary Stronghold (0/1)
- Defeat a Warlord (0/1)
- Collect Strauss’s Research (0/1)
If you exfil before completing the quest for some reason, the Stronghold Keycard and the Fortress Keycard – Legacy you obtain will be lost.
Where to find and how to complete a Merc Camp
You can find Mercenary Camps all around Urzikstan, in all three zones. For the Storm the Castle mission, we recommend completing a Merc Camp in the Tier 1 zone, that you can locate by opening your map and looking for tent-like icons, as shown in the above map screenshot.
Once you arrive at a Mercenary Camp, defeat all enemies until the pop-up appears, “Activity Completed: Merc Camp Cleared.” Now, look for the Mercenary Cache in the camp and open it to find the Stronhold Keycard, which you need for the next objective.
Where to find and how to clear Clear a Mercenary Stronghold
Similar to the Mercenary Camp, you can find Mercenary Strongholds all around the map. Look for the castle-like icon nearest to you that, upon hovering, says, “Mercenary Stronghold.” For reference, we have shared the location of one of the Mercenary Strongholds in the above screenshot.
Head to the Mercenary Stronghold, open the locked door, and clear the entire building until you reach a safe. Interact with it to start drilling the safe, which takes around 90 seconds to complete. Your task during that time is to survive, as the mercenary reinforcements will try to kill you.
Once the safe is open, collect the Fortress Keycard – Legacy from the Safe to complete the second objective, “Clear a Mercenary Stronghold.”
Where to find and how to defeat a Warlord
You will find the Warlord inside the Legacy Fortress, the most well-guarded facility in the game. Now, talking about its location, the Legacy Fortress is west of Popov Power. We have shared its exact location in the above map screenshot to simplify things.
Before heading to the Legacy Fortress, ensure you have good weapons, and at least a two-plate armour. However, we recommend having three-plate armour, at least one self-revive, lethal and tactical equipment, a Death Perception power-up and a Rocket Launcher to deal with the inbound helicopters.
Once you are done with the prep work, head to the fortress location and make your way inside the main building. Do not wait and try to clear every enemy as they keep respawning. On the top floor, you will find the Warlord, who uses a mod weapon to deal massive damage.
You can take him out from a distance using a ranged weapon or throwables. Once you do, he will drop the quest item, “Strauss’s Research.”
How to collect Collect Strauss’s Research and complete Storm the Castle MW3 Zombies mission
Strauss’s Research is one of the drop loots from the Warlord that you can collect after defeating him. Once you collect Strauss’s Research, head to an exfil site and exfil out of the match. Doing so will complete the Storm the Castle MW3 Zombies mission.
