G2 Esports’ Valorant squad remains untouchable after winning yet another Ignition Series tournament, the Mandatory.gg Cup.

This marks G2’s fourth straight tournament win as an organization with Oscar “mixwell” Cañellas Colocho at the helm.

G2’s star-studded Valorant roster consists of Jacob “pyth” Mourujärvi, Charlie “ardiis” Svarenieks, Patryk “paTiTek” Fabrowski, and David “davidp” Prins — who finally made it official by signing with the team a few days ago.

G2’s lineup is currently showing the highest level of Valorant gameplay in Europe, and maybe even the world. All of its players are capable of making big plays or clutching at any given moment. Their communication and coordination is always on point, and each player has dedicated himself to mastering his respective agent.

But that’s just touching the surface of what makes this team the best in the world right now.

They have strategies no-one else is trying

During their match against BBL Esports, G2 decided to go for a three-man push into Mid-courtyard on Ascent. They completely left the B-site undefended and were prepared to play retake if needed. Instead, G2 caught BBL while they were trying to set up at mid, and ardiis cleaned them up even through the Omen Dark Cover.

They squeeze maximum value out of their abilities

A few rounds later, G2 decided to give up mid-control at the start of the round and tried to push out of B-main. After getting the quick kill outside of B-main, mixwell ran back to the defender’s spawn.

G2 already knew their opponents were stuck at Mid-courtyard because they had just pushed from B-main. So ardiis used his Recon Bolt to spot them, and mixwell wallbanged the remaining BBL agents with his operator.

They’re the best at gathering enemy information

During the Grand Final, G2 won all three games against Bonk convincingly. G2’s ability to gather enemy information and act accordingly is why they’re such a formidable team. During a 4v3 situation, paTiTek could’ve easily peaked into Bonk, since they had the man advantage. Instead, he played it safe and forced the enemy team from pushing into A-garden.

They know how to take calculated risks

The team is also not afraid to try risky plays. G2 had ardiis defending the B-site, while mixwell guarded the A-site in a 2v2 situation. After ardiis was taken out, mixwell ran and aimed straight into the B-site, since he knew the spike would have to be planted. Most players would have slowly pushed into the site and waited for the plant sound.

Every member of the team can make clutch in-game calls

G2’s clutch decision-making skills also work well during scramble situations. On the very last round of the tournament, both teams traded kills right at the start. But G2 found themselves a man down after ardiis was eliminated. Instead of regrouping with his teammates, davidp decided to continue pushing and won a 2v1 fight that gave G2 the advantage.

G2’s confident Founder and CEO, Carlos “ocelote” Rodriguez continued to lay claim over his organization’s title as being the best in the world. Ocelote then took shots at Team SoloMid (TSM) and Sentinel’s Valorant squads, surmising, “I think we have a chance [even with] 150 ping.”

Another important note to keep in mind is G2’s agent composition. The team went 18-0 by using Jett, Cypher, Omen, Sage, and Sova, regardless of which map they played on. Is this the meta or have they just found the perfect comp for their skills?
