League of Legends developer Riot Games, is stepping out of its comfort zone with its new game, Ruined King: A League of Legends Story. While the game was teased a few months back, Riot recently announced an early 2021 launch date along with a new cinematic trailer.

Ruined King will be a turn-based single-player game set in the world of Runeterra. Just from the name, many LoL players would deduce that the game will expand on the lore of the popular in-game item, Blade of the Ruined King.

From the trailer, Ruined King makes use of an ensemble of familiar playable champions: Miss Fortune, Illaoi, Braum, Yasuo, Ahri, and Pyke. As the baddest of Bilgewater, you are sent on a quest to journey into the Black Mist where you will encounter the infamous Ruined King.

While there was no gameplay shown, we can expect a mish-mash of various turn-based RPG elements to help bring the champions into a different game system. From the looks of it, the game could have a party system similar to Final Fantasy that’ll integrate each champions’ skills as inputted moves or feature turn-based movement like XCOM.

Ruined King will be the first game published under Riot Forge, Riot’s publishing company that focuses on developing games with other studios. The game is currently being developed by Airship Syndicate, known for Battle Chasers: Nightwar and Darksiders Genesis, with comic artist Joe Madureira leading the team.

Ruined King: A League of Legends Story will be released on Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC in early 2021.
