Geek Fam has defeated TNC Predator 2-0 in the Lower Bracket Final of the ONE Esports Dota 2 SEA League.

The win was a much-needed morale booster for Geek Fam, who were able to avenge their loss to TNC Predator in the Upper Bracket Semifinal.

Marc Polo Luis “Raven” Fausto made a case for himself as the best carry player in all of Southeast Asia by giving Geek Fam an easy game two victory that eliminated TNC from the tournament. Raven continued his hot streak, following his two perfect games against T1 yesterday.

Game one

At the start of the series, TNC Predator decided to experiment with a fully global lineup, utilizing Nature’s Prophet, Io, and a surprise final pick Spirit Breaker in their offlane. The strategy worked out great during the early stages of the game. Damien “kpii” Chok would start the fights with his Charge of Darkness, while Armel, March, and Gabbi would teleport in and burst down Raven’s Gyrocopter.

But Geek Fam stopped TNC’s aggressive plays, once Carlo “Kuku” Palad finished his Blink Dagger on his Doom Bringer, and started counter-initiating for his team. Kuku used his Doom ultimate on kpii, which rendered his opponent’s Spirit Breaker completely useless during team fights. 

With TNC falling behind by 15,000 gold, the team decided to go for an all-in team fight outside the Rosh Pit. Geek Fam demolished TNC’s heroes at the start of the fight, which forced Armel Paul “Armel” Tabios and kpii to use their  buybacks. But, thanks to a clutch Sonic Wave ultimate from Karl “Karl” Jayme’s Queen of Pain, Geek Fam was able to teamwipe TNC and finish the game a few minutes later.

Game two

Geek Fam pulled off a 2-0 sweep of TNC by making sure TNC’s supports and offlane heroes had terrible starts to the game. This meant the team only had to deal with Kim “Gabbi” Villafuerte’s Alchemist later, which Raven easily accomplished with his massively farmed Phantom Lancer.

On the other hand, Geek Fam’s support players — Kenny “Xepher” Deo and Matthew “Whitemon” Filemon — helped the team control TNC’s heroes with the Ogre Magi’s Fireblast and Treant Protector Overgrowth ultimate. This allowed Raven’s Phantom Lancer to deal as much damage as possible during team fights, and resulted in a perfect 22/0/5 KDA record.

Geek Fam completed its impressive Lower Bracket run by eliminating TNC Predator, and will now face Fnatic in the Grand Final of the ONE Esports Dota 2 SEA League.

Meanwhile, TNC Predator ended its tournament run with a third place finish, and will walk away with US$15,000 in prize money.
