The Chainsaw Man manga dives deeper into the world of devils and their hunters with a fresh new protagonist.

Part 2 of Chainsaw Man puts the spotlight on Asa Mitaka — an introverted high school student who detests small talk, class activities, and devils — and her everyday life following the events of Part 1.

To get you up to date with the War Devil story arc, here’s a detailed introduction to Yoshida in Chainsaw Man Part 2, including his background story, personality, and first appearance in the manga.

Warning: Major spoilers if you haven’t read the International Assassins arc and chapter 98 onwards of the Chainsaw Man manga.

Who is Hirofumi Yoshida in Chainsaw Man Part 2?

Hirofumi Yoshida is a supporting character in Chainsaw Man Part 2. He attends the same high school as Asa Mitaka and ends up in the same group as her in the Devil Hunter club.

Prior to the club, Yoshida actually met Asa at the school’s front gate. During that time, she was being possessed by Yoru the War Devil, who was finding the whereabouts of Chainsaw Man.

Yoshida previously met Denji during the International Assassins arc, and continues to be his bodyguard in Part 2. The private devil hunter approaches him after he saves the city from the Bat Devil.

Yoshida has been tasked by an undisclosed organization to keep the Part 1 protagonist safe and make sure that no one knows that he’s Chainsaw Man. The two come to an impasse when he finds out that all Denji wants to do is impress women with his secret identity.

As Yoshida covers Denji’s recent tracks, such as him leaving his student ID at the scene, he tries to hush the teenager up by introducing him to Asa Mitaka.

Denji tries to impress Asa by hyping up Chainsaw Man, but she quickly disproves him by asking how he would actually know such personal things. He eventually gets irritated and brashly reveals that he’s Chainsaw Man, only to see Asa walk away in disbelief.

Relieved by the situation, Yoshida plays along with Denji’s reveal and says that no one will believe him if he acts like a reckless know-it-all.

Personality and powers of Yoshida in Chainsaw Man

While not much is known about him, Yoshida is observant and likes to talk playfully to his friends and foes. Upon meeting Denji for the second time, he tries to understand why Denji wants to reveal his identity, only to find out that it’s another way for girls to like him.

Despite being a high schooler, he is usually mistaken as an older devil hunter for his stoic attitude and in-depth knowledge of devils. During the International Assassins arc, he converses about the powers of Makima with Kishibe and even joins him in Makima’s sacrificial ritual to lure out Quanxi.

Yoshida has a contract with the Octopus Devil for an unknown price. By crossing his middle and index fingers, he summons the devil’s tentacles to aid him in battle. The tentacles can bind enemies, catch Yoshida when he falls, and produce clouds of ink to limit the vision of his opponents.

First appearance of Yoshida in Chainsaw Man

Yoshida in Chainsaw Man first appears in chapter 55 as one of Denji’s bodyguards who protected him from the onslaught of assassins from around the world.
