T1 defeated LPL first seed JD Gaming at the Worlds 2023 semifinals to book their spot in the final against Weibo Gaming.

The exact same roster has managed to reach the Worlds final for a second consecutive year, which means a second chance at redemption.

Last year, they fought tooth and nail, but eventually lost 3-2 to DRX who became the Worlds 2022 winners. Ryu “Keria” Min-seok was photographed crying immediately after the series as Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok looked over empathetically from his seat.

After last year’s result and a series of second-place finishes, T1 fans are doing more than just pray. They’ve embarked on a new quest — do as many good deeds as possible in order to increase T1’s good karma. Lee “Gumayusi” Min-hyeong was asked about this trend during Worlds 2023 Media Day.

Gumayusi can feel how much T1 fans want them to emerge victorious on the biggest Worlds stage

While he doesn’t quite know when this trend started, he does believe that it is an overall “good” thing. After all, these fans are doing more charity work by giving back to society.

“Hearing this makes us realize just how much the fans want us to win and it gives us a lot more responsibility to work harder,” said Gumayusi.

“Overall it’s a good image for us and them as well,” he said, adding that it also brings a positive image to esports.

T1, the sole remaining LCK representative at Worlds 2023, will be representing the region in the final. They secured their spot at Worlds through championship points.

In the Swiss stage, they conquered Team Liquid and Cloud9 while dropping one game to Gen.G. In the playoffs qualifier, they swept Bilibili Gaming.

The quarterfinals saw T1 sweeping LNG Esports and subsequently triumphing over JD Gaming. With only one LPL team left, the fourth seed Weibo Gaming poses as their final challenge in the upcoming showdown on November 19.

League of Legends esports fans can watch the series live on Riot Games’ official channels on Twitch and YouTube.
