Are you a mid lane or support main? Do you frequently play mages in these roles? Are you constantly on the lookout to see if your fellow mage-wielding teammate is building Liandry’s Anguish… or not?
Even though we almost never see more than one mage champion drafted in pro play, solo queue is a completely different story.
In the free-for-all, chaotic competitive environment, Vel’Koz support is still very much alive, with a 51.78% win rate this patch at Platinum rank and above at the time of writing, according to U.GG. Zyra, another double burn user, also has a positive win rate at 50.36%.
You can now build multiple Liandry’s Anguish and Demonic Embrace items on the same team in patch 12.13
- Literal Torment (passive) – Torment now stacks when applied by multiple users (however one user cannot refresh another user’s application of the passive)
- Eyes On Me (passive) – Azakana Gaze now stacks when applied by multiple users (however one user cannot refresh another user’s application of the passive)
Liandry’s passive deals base magic damage and additional ability damage that burn enemy champions, taking off 4% of their maximum health over four seconds.
Demonic Embrace shares a similar passive. Melee users deal 7.2% of their maximum health to enemy champions, while ranged users deal 4% of their maximum health as total magic damage over four seconds.
Prior to this patch, the passive on these items did not stack, meaning it would be ineffective to build more than one Liandry’s Anguish and Demonic Embrace on the same team. In a coordinated stack, teammates would typically communicate with each other and purchase different AP Mythic items, such as Luden’s Tempest or Everfrost, to maximize their damage output.
Now, you don’t have to anymore. We’re living in a post-patch 12.10 world, where champions across the board have more health and are tankier than ever. This seemingly small buff is therefore very beneficial to mages who already prefer the DoT build, such as Swain, Aurelion Sol, Cassiopeia, Morgana, Malzahar, Zyra, and Vel’koz.
What’s more, since fasting Senna has returned, having an AP bot laner who takes farm is not uncommon, and having more than one DoT mage on the same team, a reality.
